Chapter 13 blog
I think it is very interesting how boys and girls separate themselves form one another during middle childhood. I learned that this happens in all cultures and may have a little to do with boys and girls having different chores assigned to them. Even though this makes since this can not be the only reason because in school boys and girls are doing the same activities throughout the day. It was also interesting to me that boys and girls have different types of friendships. Girls have “best friends” and may have only one or two of these “best friends”, but boys have larger networks of friends that they can play with. I remember when I was younger having only a few “best friends” but never thought about it until I read this chapter.
Lastly I totally agree with the book when it says that girls solve problems is a more indirect way than boys. I can remember when I was in the middle childhood stage and when us girls got mad at another girl we would not go up to her and talk about it, instead we would whisper about her or talk behind her back. It sounds horrible looking bask now, but almost every girl has done it.
